Archetype records every change to your brand, whether a person or an agent made it, with the value before and after. You can open any change, undo it, and save the whole brand as a named version to come back to later.

## Open History

- **The whole brand:** the **History** card on **Home** shows the latest changes. Select **View all** for the full **History** page, with every change under the day it was made and **Earlier** to page back.
- **One item:** on a component, template, asset or other item, open **History** in its details (**View changes**), or the **History** button in its header. It shows the same list narrowed to that one thing.

Every member can read History. Undoing and restoring need edit rights, as described below.

## What is recorded

Every edit to the brand's content is logged:

- The brand profile: name, description and website
- Foundations and logos
- Assets in the library
- Knowledge documents
- Artifacts
- Icon sets
- Components and their examples
- Templates and their frames
- Guideline rules

Each entry says who made the change (a teammate, or an agent and the person it works for) and what it changed. A run of quick edits by one person to the same item shows as one change, so typing a description doesn't leave a line per keystroke. Comments appear in the feed too.

Open an entry to see what it altered: a short value reads as before and after, and longer text such as a document, markup or a stylesheet shows as a line-by-line diff. A change synced from code has **View commit**, which opens the commit it came from.

## Undo a change

:::steps
### Find the change
Open History for the brand or for the item, and select the entry.

### Take it back
Select **Undo change** for an edit, or **Restore** for something that was deleted.
:::

An undo puts back only what that change altered. If someone has since edited a different field on the same item, their edit stays. The undo is itself a change in History, so you can undo it too.

A few rules:

- You need edit rights on the area the change was made in. Viewers see History without the undo buttons.
- Deleted files are kept for 30 days. Within that window **Restore** brings back the item and its file; after it, a deleted file can't come back.
- Adding something can't be undone from History when a person added it. Delete it from its own page instead.
- A change an agent made is undone the way the agent would undo it. If the same thing has been edited again since, the undo is refused rather than throwing that later edit away.

## Versions

A change is one edit. A version is a copy of the whole brand at one moment, under a name you choose, such as "Before the rebrand" or "Launch".

### Save a version

:::steps
### Open History
Go to the full **History** page.

### Select Save version
Give the version a name and select **Save**. You land on the new version.
:::

Saving and restoring versions needs edit rights on the whole brand: an Editor, Admin or Owner, or a custom role that can edit every area.

A version covers the same content as the change log above. It doesn't include designs made on the **Create** page, comments, the team, the plan or settings such as the share link.

### Compare

Select **Versions** on the **History** page to see every saved version, newest first. Open one to see what has changed in the brand since it was saved, grouped by section of the app. To compare two versions with each other, change **Compared with now** to another version.

Open any row to see both sides of that item.

### Restore

- **One item:** open its row in the version and select **Restore**. If you restore a component that is used inside other components, those are updated to match.
- **The whole brand:** select **Restore brand** and confirm. Every item goes back to how it was in the version, and anything added since is removed. Before anything moves, Archetype saves the brand as it is now as a version of its own, so you can always restore your way back.

Files deleted more than 30 days ago can't be restored and are skipped.

To remove a version you no longer need, open it and select **Delete version**.

## Changes waiting for review

When a connected agent proposes changes to the brand, they wait at the top of the **History** page under **Waiting for review** until someone applies or discards them. Once applied, each one is logged like any other change and can be undone the same way. See [Changes from agents](/docs/agents/drafts).
